Welcome to Dundalk Music Center’s Music Theory Lessons page. In this series of lessons I will cover subjects of basic musical theory fundamentals and progress into more advanced concepts of chord scale relationships, which can be used for writing music and improvisation. I also plan on having a series for guitarists, as time will allow.
These lessons can be beneficial to both the beginner, who is just getting their feet wet, and also the more advanced player, who would like to gain some understanding in what they are already doing. Learning music theory is not music in itself. It is, however the study of the basic fundamentals and tools which hopefully help us to better understand and communicate our musical ideas and concepts.
Remember, music is an aestetic art which is, for the most part, generated from our creative side of the brain, whereas the study of music theory has more focus on the analytical side. Keep this in mind when you study any music theory, and don’t lose sight of the aestetic nature of your music. We hope you enjoy this series. David Leoni
